The Story is coming to CBC in January 2012!
The Bible. 66 books. Over 40 authors. Hundreds of pages! But it is 1 (one) story. My story, your story, our story, His Story, The Story! Beginning January 8, 2012 through August 2012, we will be journeying through the story together, from Genesis to Revelation. Each week all of our Sunday morning Bible Studies will be working through the same story as our pastor uses for his sermon text and our worship pastor uses as our theme for the day. This blog will be used as a way for our church to interact with each other and the text as God speaks to us from “The Story”.

We have been blessed as a family already going through the Story. We sit on my daughter’s bed some nights and go over the week’s readings and lessons that they have learned about that week. I always ask them to review where we are at in “The Story” so that they remember how all of this fits together…My 7 year old daughter sat on her bed and told me the Story from Creation to the Fall to The Creation of the Nation of Israel, their move to Egypt, The Famine that brought Israel to Egypt….She told me about the Fat cows and the Skinny Cows and what those meant and she told me that it was a big deal to bring Benjamin to Egypt because he was His father’s favorite son from his favorite wife, Rachel….just the details she remembers and the animation on her face and the assurance that she knows exactly what she is talking about….My 5 year old son fills in the pieces and listens right along…he understands more than I did in college! I didn’t know there was a book called Habakkuk or Judges then!
It has been a joy to see our children learn and I have loved seeing God at work here at CBC and in the lives of our family. What a great tool for growth…but God is doing the growing.
Grateful MOM!
I have been working on my prayer life for over a year now trying to concentrate on the blessings instead of the “wants”. I find everyday there isn’t enough time to thank God for all He has done for me and all those around me. I find myself, after naming off many blessings, telling God “thank You for all You have done for me there are just too many blessings to name them all but You know what they are”. I have found that since I spend more time concentrating on the blessings I not only don’t have time for the “I wants and the I needs” but I cannot think of any. God has been so good to me/us since I first walked into Crestwood Baptist Church 16 months ago and “The Story” is opening my eyes even more everyday on just how good God has been and continues to be. Crestwood Baptist Church, Donnie, Greg, Chris, Bill, Mark, all the staff and all the people are at the very top of my list each and everyday of the blessings I am thankful for. You could never know how thankful I am to You all but most of all for God brining me here. I could write a book just from the experiences I have had personally over the last 16 months.
Thank You, but most of all I THANK GOD!!!!
WOW, God showed me one more thing last night after being in the Rest of the Story class. I sometimes feel inadequate because I have been far from perfect in my life and our children have been far from perfect so far in their lives. I sometimes feel like I am not worthy of all that God has done for us and not worthy to be in the presence of the Godly people at Crestwood Baptist Church. I find myself ashamed of my past. In the last several weeks since the story has begun I have seen evidence that lots of people have had the same things in their past as me and their children have had problems too, and yet they are accepted and loved here and it has not affected their walk with Jesus, in fact if anything it may have made it closer.
Donnie used a quote from Courageous at 3D several months ago something like, it is not what you have done in your past it is that you finish well, and that is my goal, to leave the past in the past and finish well. I believe God brought me to CBC to help me see I need to finish well, and he gave me another chance to get my life together and follow him. I am taking him up on his offer and seeking to finish well and be the spiritual leader of my home and the most Godly father, grandfather and husband I can be. I thank God everyday for bringing me to CBC what a wonderful 16 months it has been I cannot immagine what is in the future.
Thank you, but most of all I THANK GOD!!!
As I sat in Sunday School class yesterday, all that kept going through my mind, as I listened to all the discussion about Rahab, was once again God took the “least of these” and did something great. I kept going over in my mind all the times I could think of where God used the “least of these” and did great things with them. This gives me such a peaceful feeling knowing God can and does use people just like me to do things for Him. I have no idea what God has in store for me in the future but I plan on keeping my eyes and ears open so I don’t miss what he has to say or to show me. I have said this before in my last post on here but when Donnie emphasized it is not what you have done in your past it is that you finish well that struck me deep in my heart because that gave me great hope that God has given me another chance to “finish well” and he brought me to CBC to help me figure out how and what I need to do to accomplish that goal. I want to finish well for me, my wife, my kids, grandchildren and if God lets me stay around long enough my great grandchildren.
Thank You, but most of all I THANK GOD!!!!
First let me say that our family has thouroughly enjoyed being able to study the bible and go through The Story together. The conversations that we can have to discuss what we’ve learned and how it applies to our lives or our family are wonderful. We are wondering though…..what is the church’s plan after we have completed The Story? We don’t have an expectation, but it would be nice if our future ciricumlum were unified and the church, including study groups were completing the same ciriculum.
Andrea and Jeff,
We are currently looking at several different Sunday morning curriculum options that will allow us to continue studying the same passage or theme on Sunday mornings in all of our age groups. Please pray for us as we seek God’s direction in this decision.
Thanks!
