Bible Books Intro

Many people stay away from the Bible because they don't know anything about it or are intimidated by all of the pages and different books.  Come join us as we take a very practical look at this special book;  how we got it;  how it's organized;  and how to know what's what.  You'll enjoy learning about the books with some cool memory devices.  Bring your Bible if you've got one.  We'll get one for you if you don't.  Be prepared to laugh and have fun!

   Cancer Support Group

We have Christian based support groups for both cancer patients and their caregivers and others touched by cancer.  These groups are intended to serve those in our community who have a need for the support of others in this time of unique concerns and experiences.  The groups are a safe place to share and confront feelings and frustrations as they occur.  We also want to help promote awareness and education about different types of cancer and the resources available.

DC Groups

The Discipleship Curriculum (DC) is . . .
  • a 21- month program of Bible study, Bible reading and Bible memorization
  • a sequence of seven "semesters" - from DC101's foundations to DC403's conclucing topies - with Bible reading and smaller group meetings during three "semester breaks"
  • a guided self-study through material designed to enhance a man's walk with Christ and empower one to be a more effective leader within the Kingdom of God
  • a systematic walk through a set of topics, skills, and experiences that will encourage a man to become a more effective disciple of Christ - a program rather than simply a set of good lessons or a good Bible course

Pre-requisites for DC:

  • a hunger to walk with Christ
  • an availability to attend weekly meetings
  • a willingness to do 4-5 hours of homework per week

An Overview of the Bible Memory, Bible Reading, and Bible Study

  1. Bible Memory:  Over the 21 months, you will memorize at least 70 verses.
  2. Bible Reading:  Over the first nine months, you will read the New Testament, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and a sampling of the Psalms.  On average, you will read about 12 chapters per week.  In the final 12 months, you will read the rest of the Old Testament.  During the three semester breaks, you will read Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Isaiah.
  3. Bible Study

The book of Hebrews declares that Jesus Christ is superior to anything that the old covenant offered;  Hebrews is God's final Word and clearest revelation of Himself.  Christians are challenged to 'go on to maturity' (6:1) and the 'run with perseverance the race marked out for us' (12:1).  This is a good word for those who view salvation as all gift with no demand and who cling to the false security of easy Christianity.  Hear this haunting question:  "How shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation?" (2:3)

Igniting a Passion to Pray

This 6-week Bible Study will cover basic teachings on prayer as recorded in Scripture and provide general guidelines on how to have an effective prayer time when you are alone or in a group.  The prayer format can be effectively used by men and women in many settings, for example, to start prayer groups for work, church based women's or men's groups, prison ministry, etc.  It is our prayer that everyone, no matter where they are currently in their walk with God, will experience a greater intimacy with the Lord and a more effective prayer life as a result of taking this class.

Love and Respect

"Come find out the Secret that cracks the communication code between man and wife.  We invite couples to join us on a great adverture to discover and or rediscover what God has to say about successful marriages.  This is a biblically based DVD study by Emerson E. Eggerich, Ph.D.  The powerful truth about Love and Respect is that the conflicts couples experience are not the root problem.  Successful couples know that harmony and happiness in marriage are not primarily achieved by solving daily problems.  Though these problems are real, they are not the root issue.  Find out what the root issue is.  This is part of the secret!"

Patriarchs

Taken primarily from Genesis, chapters 12-50, Beth provides fascinating details from the lives of the patriarchs.  Women will discover God's pursuit of relationship and the unfolding of His earthly plan:  how through one nation - and ultimately one man - all people on earth will be blessed.  Participants will explore concepts such as blessing, covenant, and promise, and the bearing each has on a New Testament believer's life today.  Group members will also explore the Hebrew names of God introduced on the early pages of Scripture.  This class is for women only.

Precept Upon Precept:  Isaiah

Isaiah is the crown jewel of Old Testament prophets, a book that strikes awe in the heart of its reader, especially when its poetry is read in the Hebrew.  Prophecies from Isaiah are mentioned in twenty-two places in the Gospels, Acts, and Romans.  The words of Isaiah were often found on the lips of the Christ, the Messiah prophesied in Isaiah.  If Jesus, God incarnate, honored this grand and glorious book so highly, then you and I ought to do the same.

Part I:  Face to Face with a Holy God (14 lessons - Chapters 1-39)
The Word of the Holy One to Israel, the Remnant, and the Nations . . . and the Promise of the Child to be Born.  We'll meet the Holy One of Israel, and learn how He deals with those who claim Him as God but don't honor Him as God in the way that they live.  And we'll find the destiny of nations, the future of all mankind . . . including ours.

Saturday Morning Men's Bible Study:  1st Corinthians
(Back to Top)

Our cultural environment can have powerful influences on us.  It affected the church at Corinth very much so.  They were confronted with Issues that we still fact today - problems like immorality, instability, divisions, jealousy, and envy, marital difficulties, sexual immorality, and misuses of spiritual gifts.  Yet in spite of this concentration of problems, Paul's letter contains some of the most amazing passages on love and resurrection.  This study will inspire men to develop a holy character.

Join us early on Saturdays for an invigorating verse by verse Bible study through the book of 1st Corinthians.  Great interaction and fellowship with an incredible group of Christian men is included free of charge!  Light breakfast provided.  No sign-up necessary . . . just show up!

Truth Project

In a recent sutdy, the Barna Research Group revealed a stunning statistic that continues to reverberate throughout the evangelical world.  Only 9 percent of professing Christians have a biblical worldview.  Because of this, today's believers live very similarly to non-believers.  A personal sense of significance is rarely experienced, we spend our money and time on things that fail to satisfy and we begin to wonder what life's ultimate purpose really is.  The Truth Project is a DVD-based small group curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessions taught by Dr. Del Tackett.  This study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective.  Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life.

Zechariah Part I

This is a study of the priest and prophet "Whom Jehovah remembers".  We will attempt to understand the eight visions and the two burdens that the Lord placed on his heart.  Zechariah encouraged the people to finish rebuilding the temple, but God also put Messianic and apocalyptic undertones in these messages.  Zechariah's Book is the most Messianic of the prophets after Isaiah.  This is a 14-week class broken into two sessions.  The second session will begin in January.  This class will include a potluck each week beginning the first night.
