How will I, with God’s help, resume?

¨ We will remember…the meaning of the ordinances, the motive in gathering/giving/praying, and the measure of Christ’s loving sacrifice so that we move out in loving God and others, including remembering out story as we share with others and ourselves.

God is love

We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.  – (1 John 4:16)

Loving with Excellence (version 2) – Sermon September 14, 2014

September 14th, 2014  |    |  Scripture: :-  |  Series:

Sunday, September 14, 2014
Series – The Greats: What’s love got to do with it?
Title:  Loving with Excellence
Text:  1 Corinthians 12:31-13:1-3, 8, 13

Love is the supreme value and the greatest virtue in life

Love is a gift from God

Love is a great life goal (emptiness is produced when love is absent)
· If I don’t live a life of love nothing I say will matter
· If I don’t live a life of love nothing I know will matter
· If I don’t live a life of love nothing I believe will matter
· If I don’t live a life of love nothing I give will matter
· If I don’t live a life of love nothing I accomplish will matter

God shoes us how to live with excellence and leave an enduring legacy – fill our life with love

Love never fails

Loving God:  God first and foremost. Think about a time when the Lord showed you that he loved you.  Take a few moments to voice thanks to God for loving you at that point in your life.

Loving others:  Ask the Lord to help you choose love.  A prayer guide: “Thank you, God, for loving me in spite of my imperfections.  As hard as I try, I admit I have difficulty loving some people.  Help me trust You for the power to love.  Lord, I turn to You for wisdom and a willingness to love others.  Help me to show that I love You by loving others, including ____________.  In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Sermon 8-17-14 Who proves to be a real neighbor?

August 17th, 2014  |    |  Scripture: :-  |  Series:

Sunday, August 17, 2014
Series – The Greats: What’s love got to do with it?
Title:  Who proves to be a real neighbor?
Text:  Luke 10:25-37

How do we show our love for God?
Who is involved in the story?
Who proved to be a neighbor?
Who do you most relate to in the story?
Who is my neighbor?  Who needs mercy?

Agape love is more than knowing what’s right.

Agape love calls us out of our comfort zones
· See the need
· Feel the need
· Touch the need
· Meet the need

Agape love is learned only through God’s help
· Ask God to help you discern how He can meet a legitimate need through you for someone who cannot repay you
· Ask God to help you respond with Christ like love toward your enemies
Þ   Love your enemies
Þ   Do good to those who hate you
Þ   Bless those who curse you
Þ   Pray for those who mistreat you

Ask God to help you know His agape love for you
